What is ‘Soca’ music?

Soca – A genre of Caribbean music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the late 1970s, and developed into a range of styles in the 1980s and later. Soca developed as an offshoot of calypso, with influences from cadence, funk and soul. Soca has evolved in the last 20 years primarily through musicians from various Caribbean countries including Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia & Antigua.
